German Students Open Their Hearts to Us

From almost half a world away, 8th grade students and teachers in Bruchsal, Germany wanted to do something in response to the tragedy of 9/11. So to reach out to us in the United States, they chose a school (Art & Design) and proceeded to create a booklet of photographs and messages reflecting on the horrors of that day. For all alumni and students to appreciate their efforts, the letter and booklet were displayed at the art exhibit that ran during last October's Grand Reunion week.

The following is the letter, in its entirety, that they included:

"Dear teachers and pupils,
I'm a teacher in Bruchsal and my German class and I were shocked about the terror in New York. We followed the news on TV and the newspaper and couldn't believe that something like this really is reality.
____We are far away from you and still want to show that we care about the people in New York. So we created a card where you can see pictures from newspapers in Germany and we put up candles in school for all of you.
____It's not much we can do but we want you to know that we think about you.
Take care

C
laudia Heim and the class of 8c "
