1952 Grad's Historic Photos Following the Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. Finally Published -- 41 Years Later

MLK killing: The lost photos of a tragic night. It was April 4, 1968, Memphis, Tennessee. Henry Groskinsky, a 1952 graduate of the School of Industrial Art* and a LIFE magazine photographer, was at the Lorraine Motel, where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was staying. One second, King was joking with aides. The next second, he was gone, slain by a sniper's bullet. Groskinsky's photos of the aftermath have never been published -- until now. Click here to view the photos and listen to his commentary.

*The High School of Art and Design was founded as the School of Industrial Art on November 8, 1936. Visit the School History section to learn more about our exceptional high school.

Having a Reunion?

Visit our Event Calendar section to find out if your class is having a reunion. Or, if you're planning one you may have the information posted on our website, for free.
____Reunions are generally organized by the class presidents, but anyone who chooses to can plan one. While reunions are often held on the 10th, 20th or 25th anniversary years, they may be celebrated any year you decide to have one.
____Class reunions offer a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends, reminisce about the past and enjoy the present. Click here to see how the Class of 1973 celebrated their first -- but not last -- reunion this past June '08. (Their reunion was significant because no yearbook was published the year they graduated.)
____PS: The Class of 1973 is now 30 strong on facebook.com. They have close to 200 photos in a class album, with more being added daily. For updates on their new yearbook, and to keep in touch with alumni, we encourage everyone from the Class of 1973 to join their facebook group.
